Sea Cooling Water System

Background

In this sea water direct cooling system in Saudi Arabia, carbon steel and glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes are used to transport the sea water to a two chamber, single journey condenser with a 67 kPa pressure drop at a flowrate of 29.3 m 3 /s. The cooling water pump is rated at 15.47 m3 /s at 16.5 m of head. Once past the condenser, the flow was sent to two siphon wells of cross sectional area 114 m2 , and height 2.1 m. The carbon steel pipes are DN2600 type and the GRP pipes are of DN2600 and DN3800.
